4 DAYS MOUNT MERU CLIMBING

Overview

Mount Meru is located in Arusha about 70km away from Kilimanjaro Mountain. The second highest mountain in Tanzania and fifth in Africa at 4566masl. It is a stratovolcano which erupted four times and the last one being in 1910.

You reach the summit in 3 to 4 days accompanied by armed and trained Park ranger. Important to carry are your water bottle, sun glasses and backpack.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Day

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be picked up by our safari Guide to the Hotel in Arusha for meals and accommodation.

Day 2: Momela Gate to Miriakamba Huts

After breakfast your safari Guide with picnic lunch boxes will take from the Hotel to Momella gate the starting point at 1500masl.
The trekking of 4-6 hours starts from grassland to the montane forest with some great game viewing like White and Black colobus monkeys, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Bushbucks, Giraffes and birds species.

You will have your lunch in some freat view, and later to Miriakamba huts at 2514masl. for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Miriakamba Huts to Saddle Huts

The walk from Miriakamba huts to Saddle huts starts soon after breakfast through the steep walk way to the elephant ridge with fantastic view of Mount Kilimanjaro floating on clouds.

You will arrive at Saddle huts for lunch and leisure after unless you energetic to climb the little Meru which is immediately above Saddle huts. Dinner and overnight at Saddle huts.

Day 4: Saddle Hut to Summit to Momela Gate

Early in the morning around 0200hrs you will have cup of coffee and starts hick to the summit through Rhino point at 3800masl to the cobra point at 4350masl where is normally at the sun rise time. The view of crater rim, ash cone and Kilimanjaro Mountain from here is unforgettable.

An hour later you will be at summit ( 4566masl). After the summit it is time to walk down to Saddle huts for full breakfast back to Momella gate with picnic lunch then to Arusha for dinner and overnight.
